The Story

Sofitel Xiongan operates in a dynamic market where demand patterns can shift dramatically— particularly during public holidays. Family travellers represent a significant share of peak-period demand, with a strong preference for king-size beds. For the revenue team, responding to these patterns with speed and precision was becoming increasingly difficult using manual processes alone.

“Pricing and overbooking decisions require us to consider many factors at the same time,” explains Krystal Yang, Revenue Director at Sofitel Xiongan. “When everything is calculated manually, it becomes very easy to miss the best moment to act.”

The Challenge of Managing Demand With Precision

Before implementing an RMS, revenue management at Sofitel Xiongan relied heavily on manual processes. Adjusting rates for special dates required frequent updates, increasing workload and the risk of errors. Differentiating prices between king and twin beds within the same room type was especially difficult to execute consistently, particularly during peak periods.

Overbooking added another layer of complexity. Because there may be last-minute cancellations and reductions on arrival days, the team had to manually determine how far to overbook, carefully balancing the goal of full occupancy with guest satisfaction and operational stability.

“If overbooking decisions are not cautious enough, they can impact the guest experience and create additional pressure for operations,” Yang notes.

IDeaS allows us to make more accurate decisions, and we need to learn and understand the logic behind decision recommendations so that we can use IDeaS to help us make precise decisions and achieve maximum revenue.

Harnessing Data-Driven Insights With Ideas G3 Rms

After receiving training and guidance from the Accor revenue team, Sofitel Xiongan adopted IDeaS G3 RMS to support more data-driven decision-making. The system provides tailored recommendations based on the hotel’s data, supporting more informed pricing and inventory control.

Two capabilities quickly stood out:

  • Price differences between room types, which allow the hotel to set and adjust price differences between king and twin beds within the same room class across different dates
  • Overbooking recommendations, which suggest overbooking levels by room type based on demand signals

“At the beginning, using a new system requires both learning and adaptation,” says Yang. “But as I became more familiar with the system’s recommendations, I adjusted my own—and that process gave me a real sense of achievement.”

Results and Conclusion

With more granular demand forecasting and room type level pricing recommendations, Sofitel Xiongan gained both speed and confidence in decision-making. During the Qingming Festival, the team used offsets to refine price differences and successfully optimise holiday rates.

Most importantly, performance followed. RevPAR increased by 13.7% during public holidays in 2026, while reliance on spreadsheets and manual work dropped significantly.

“IDeaS allows us to make more accurate decisions, and we need to learn and understand the logic behind decision recommendations so that we can use IDeaS to help us make precise decisions and achieve maximum revenue,” Yang adds. “That’s where the real value comes from.”
