Meeting the Future with Confidence: What’s Top of Mind for Hospitality Leaders in 2027?

At IDeaS, we know a thing or two about using data to understand what’s likely to happen next—we have it down to a science.

However, when it comes to forecasting the trends and themes likely to shape the hospitality industry in 2027 and beyond, we prefer to put the algorithms away and do some good old-fashioned legwork.

This year, we drew on conversations with hoteliers, technology partners and industry experts, along with a pulse survey of hospitality professionals, to understand what’s top of mind as they prepare for 2027.

We started with a simple question: “Looking ahead to 2027, which capability will be most important for commercial teams?”

Perhaps a sign of the varied challenges operators face, no runaway winner emerged—instead, responses were surprisingly divided.

While “better profitability management” led the responses at 30% in this survey, faster decision-making, greater confidence in decisions, easier-to-use technology, stronger cross-team coordination and better market visibility all earned meaningful support.

So what’s the takeaway?

Hospitality’s future doesn’t have a single headline

It would be easy to look at the leading response and declare 2027 a year of intense focus on profitability. There’s certainly a case to be made. Commercial teams continue to face pressure to connect their strategies to bottom-line performance and demonstrate how individual decisions contribute to broader business goals.

But 30% isn’t a consensus. In fact, the more interesting takeaway may be how widely the responses were distributed.

Some hospitality professionals are thinking most about speed. Others are focused on profitability. For others, visibility, usability or alignment stand out.

A commercial leader responsible for multiple properties may see faster decision-making as the most pressing priority. A hotel trying to break down organizational silos might put alignment at the top of the list. A team experimenting with AI may be far more interested in whether it can trust and confidently act on the technology’s recommendations.

The priorities may differ, but they increasingly intersect.

Profitability depends on better decisions. Speed matters only when teams are confident they’re moving in the right direction. Better market visibility creates value only when it leads to action. And powerful technology can reach only so far if a handful of experts are the only people able to use it effectively.

Pull on one thread in these potential priorities and, pretty quickly, you find yourself tugging at several others.

The common thread: Confidence

Behind those varied priorities, one common need begins to emerge.

Confidence is becoming a competitive advantage.

Confidence may sound intangible, but its commercial impact is anything but. For a successful year ahead, hoteliers need the confidence to act when an opportunity emerges rather than continuing to analyze it. Operators will also need the confidence to stand behind a technology-driven recommendation when someone asks, “Why?”

When a property’s pricing strategy moves in a different direction from its competitors, confidence helps the team stay the course and explain why.

When you’re fighting to hit profitability targets, confidence comes from knowing your teams are working toward the same business goals. Confidence also comes from knowing that critical expertise can be shared and carried forward across an organization rather than residing with a few indispensable power users.

Readiness beats perfect foresight

There’s a certain irony to publishing predictions about an industry so dependent on effective forecasting. Revenue leaders know that forecasts change as new information arrives and market conditions evolve. Something will inevitably happen that wasn’t anticipated when the forecast was created.

The answer isn’t to stop forecasting. It’s to build the ability to respond intelligently when reality differs from expectations.

The same principle applies when preparing for 2027.

Will AI develop exactly as everyone currently expects? Probably not.

Will commercial pressures, traveler behavior and technology expectations remain perfectly predictable? History suggests being a little cautious about that one.

The organizations best prepared for what comes next won’t necessarily be those that correctly predict every twist and turn. They’ll be those with the information, technology, processes and people needed to recognize what matters and confidently decide what to do about it.

That’s the thinking behind our 2027 Hospitality Technology Predictions report. Rather than betting everything on a single transformative trend, we identified five shifts already taking shape across hospitality and explored what they could mean for commercial organizations in the year ahead.

Some may develop faster than others. Some will almost certainly surprise us. Taken together, they point toward an industry where making confident decisions, then putting them into action at greater speed and scale, becomes a defining competitive advantage.
